Meditation is a discipline, so there are some things you need to know about formalities so as not to offend or disrupt fellow meditators.

  1. Do not arrive late.  The start time is strict.  If you think you might be late, it would be best to try for another day.

  2. Arrive 10 or 15 minutes early if you have been before, or 30 minutes if you haven't.  Arriving at 7 is late.

  3. Please leave your shoes outside.

  4. Bring a drink bottle if you like, torch (or phone light), umbrella if it's raining.

  5. We have mats (zabuton), and some cushions (zafu), you might like to bring your own, and it's helpful to have a shawl or blanket as meditating can disrupt body temperature.

  6. Wear comfortable, modest clothing, and no strong smells please (perfumes or natural).

  7. Keep chatter to a minimum and voices quiet.  Be mindful of the desire to talk and try to keep questions about the practice.

  8. Whilst this tradition has many similarities to a Zen Buddhist practice, we appreciate teachings from many religions and traditions.  It is suitable for all.

  9. Sessions are for beginner to advanced beginner (that's a Zen joke), but you will be asked to sit for a minimum of 30 mins at a time.  If you have difficulty sitting still for that long, this may not be for you.  You can book a 1 on 1 session to warm up to it.

  10. You may sit in a chair (provided), or cross legged, or on your knees.

  11. The room is heated in winter.

  12. Not currently wheelchair accessible.

  13. Refrain from intoxicants before sitting, and a full belly is a sleepy belly.  Better to be hungry.

  14. Whilst we have much meditation experience, we honour your own inner wisdom.  We can share what we know by steering you out of pitfalls, but ultimately encourage you to let silence speak.

  15. Leave your pets at home.

  16. Meditation can sometimes bring up strong, unexpected emotions, or deep existential realisations.  We are available to offer support.

  17. We also hold longer weekend sessions - keep an eye out on the events page and FB page. For these, you're welcome to go for a walk on the bush block or sit by the river (bring a picnic/journal)
